Tilt-shift miniature faking is a process in which a photograph of a life-size location or object is manipulated so that it looks like a photograph of a miniature scale model.

I took a bunch of photos out the window of the apartment here and followed a photoshop tutorial to create the effect of a really narrow depth of field, which tricks the human brain into thinking it's looking at a miniature model.

Tilt-shift Maker is an online tool that will do the tricky work for you (but the quality of the image it exports isn't great).
