I went to Williamsburg to check out Abandoned Brooklyn, an exhibition by Nathan Kensinger at Union Docs.
The place was so crowded I hardly got to see a thing there, but it did get me thinking about abandoned places and the remnants to be found in them.
I've since discovered his photos on flickr, as Gowanus, and am always excited to see what new images he has added to his photostream.
Nathan seeks abandoned places, enters illegally if need be, and photographs what he finds there.
I think back to Timescape and the footage shot inside Vathouse #7 for that project.
The industrial areas I wandered through by the East River that evening were abandoned just for the night. In the morning workers would return; the ?foam roam? would start foaming again; the area might become less mysterious. But it is in these dark hours that the area captivates my attention.
